Suatu hari ia di dipaksa bergabung ke klub sastra klasik oleh kakaknya, Kakanya sendiri sebagai mantan anggota klub tersebut tak ingin klub itu terancam bubar karena kekurangan anggota. Bercerita tentang seorang siswa bernama Houtarou Oreki, ia memegang prinsip tak ingin membuang-buang tenaga dan lebih memilih menjauhi masalah atau bisa dibilang malas, namun begitu ia sering menyelesaikan masalah dengan menggunakan akalnya yang pintar.
